The fact that problem solving is a skill that captures the attention of a growing number of students and teachers from all over the world was confirmed by this year’s Brainfinity Week. This year’s event attracted even more people than last year, when Brainfinity Week welcomed over 3000 teachers, parents, schools, and companies from Serbia, the region, and beyond.
This year’s Brainfinity Problem Solving Week was held between December 7 and December 13, 2021 – in honor of the birthday of mathematician George Polya, the father of problem solving. There was even a special panel dedicated to his work.
Attendees of this year’s event gained a detailed insight into problem solving as a future-ready skill by participating in online workshops that presented this skill from different angles.
Inspirational lectures and workshops on innovation in education
Thanks to this event, which introduced engaging and inspirational innovations into the domain of education, enriching it and making it more dynamic, effective and interesting, participants came up with a number of new ideas, applicable in various fields of interest.
On the first day, they were introduced to the surprising results of the three-year Brainfinity project, and the presentation was given by the project’s founder, Ivan Anić.
Then they took part in a psychological workshop dedicated to one’s belief in success as the decisive factor of success, as well as workshops that presented the underutilized potential of mathematics in interpersonal communication, exploring the links between mathematics and language.
The attendees also had the opportunity to learn what are the most sought after skills in the modern labor market, as well as how to effectively develop them through Brainfinity. In addition, the Great Resignation workshop taught them why resignations are such a common phenomenon in the modern world, and what are the main causes of this trend.
Promotion of problem solving
Brainfinity Week, which was again organized in the week when the father of problem solving, George Polya, was born, is yet another Brainfinity’s activity aimed at promoting problem solving in society.
The Brainfinity organization brings together problem solvers, or those who strive to join their ranks. Those who want to learn more about problem solving, and those who aim toward professional development.
The first activity launched by Brainfinity is a one-of-a-kind problem solving competition for elementary and high school students that encourages children to think outside of the box, and teaches them that there is no single “correct” way of solving any problem.
Apart from the competition itself, Brainfinity opened the Problem Solving training center where teachers can individually exercise and improve their problem solving skills, and created an online course Creative problem solving, designed for everyone who wants to learn independently, but with professional guidance. Brainfinity has also established the Association of Brainfinity Schools that promotes the most important 21st-century skill, and managed to bring companies and students together through company case studies.
